Paulding County Sheriff's Office SWAT Team History

The Paulding County Sheriff’s Office began the development of their Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) in response to a hostage situation that occurred in 1998 in Paulding County. When the SWAT Team began, there were fourteen Deputies who made up the team. During the formative years, team members had to use old duty gear, personally owned equipment, along with surplus military items obtained through the State of Georgia.

Over the years, the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team has obtained, through grants and other programs, the most up to date state of the art equipment that is available to tactical teams. The team now consists of over 20 team members who are highly trained and in top physical condition. The SWAT operators who make up the Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team include entry team members, snipers, gas team members, and explosive breacher’s.
