Water Conservation Program

Water Rates that Encourage Conservation

For over a decade the state has had an increased focus on water resource management. In 2006 the Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District required that all local utilities adopt a tiered conservation rate, with the primary goal to reduce discretionary water use.

Paulding County's tiered water rates for residential customers charges the lowest rate for non-discretionary water use; the rate per 1,000 gallons increases as consumption increases. Currently Paulding County Water System has a 3 tier water rate structure. Customers are only billed at the higher rate for the use that falls within the higher tier.

  • Tier One (0 to 8,000 gals) - $10.31 per thousand
  • Tier Two (8,001 to 16,000 gals) - $11.34 per thousand
  • Tier Three (above 16,000 gals) - $12.39 per thousand
  • Base Rate - $7.50

Example: 6,000 gals of usage - $69.36

CHECK OUT THE 40 GALLON CHALLENGE

The 40 Gallon Challenge is a call for residents and businesses to reduce our region's water use on average by 40 gallons per person, per day. The challenge began in 2011 as a voluntary campaign to increase water conservation.

The 40 Gallon Challenge encourages people to save a minimum of 40 gallons a day by adopting new water-saving techniques. The pledge card outlines water-saving practices and the daily water-savings to expect. You can use the pledge to review the water-saving practices that you or your family currently puts to use. By pledging new practices, you will see the total daily savings expected for your household.

The 40 Gallon Challenge also provides maps and charts to see pledge activities in your state and across the United States.

I took the 40 Gallon Challenge and pledged to save X gallons of water daily for Georgia. How much water will you save? Visit the challenge website.
